3. In the right window, click on the IRCnet folder, then on the "Starlink-IRC" folder. Note that there is a Starlink-IRC folder and a Starlink folder. It is important that you get the right one or you won't find our chatroom...so be sure to look for STARLINK-IRC.
4. Click on "Starlink-irc:Random server"
5. Click the "Select" button.
6. Click on "Connect". You will see a lot of scrolling text when that is loaded you will see the "mIRC Favorites window. Enter #woodcarverchat in that window and click on "join". Be sure to type it correctly and you do need the # before it.

If your computer is a MAC and you have an IRC Chat Program like IRCle
If your computer is a MAC, then I am afraid I can't help you in setting up the program.
I can tell you that the important points are that you make sure you connect to the Starlink-IRC network
and that you make sure that you join the #Woodcarverchat channel (aka chat room.
If you do not have a chat program
If you are not using an IRC chat program, you have several The link below should get you connected
You'll see a "CGI:IRC Login " box. Where it says "nickname", highlight
the CGI:000 that is there and type in your nickname.
Leave the "Server" line as it is
For "Channel" type or copy #woodcarverchat you need the # and it has to
be spelled perfectly or you will end up in your own channel all by
yourself :(
When you get there, type something in the long, narrow horizontal space
at the bottom of the chat window. That way we'll know that you are there.
Note: If you use Windows XP, you may have problems connecting to IRC. This is due
to the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) that ships with XP. You may need to turn ICF off in order to
chat. You can install
Zone Alarm, a very good
free firewall, as a replacement.
To disable the firewall, follow these steps. (Or go see the microsoft XP website for more information.)
- Open Network Connections (Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.)
- Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect.
- Under Network Tasks, click "Change settings of this connection".
- On the Advanced tab, under "Internet Connection Firewall": Clear the "Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet" check box.
There is a lot of good information on the
Starlink-irc web page
